On the Thanksgiving weekend 25 years after it happened, a notorious Weslayan Plaza murder by Bellaire teen Dror Goldberg is being featured on a national television broadcast executive-produced by NBC and the creator of the “Law & Order” TV franchise.
The documentary, “The Wig Shop Murder,” part of the “Prosecuting Evil With Kelly Siegler” series, will begin airing at 7 tonight (Saturday, Nov. 25) on the Oxygen Network.
Siegler, then a Harris County assistant district attorney, successfully prosecuted the case against Goldberg, then a 19-year-old University of Houston student who had fled the country after being questioned the night of the murder. Despite representation by noted criminal attorney Dick DeGuerin, a jury found Goldberg had slit the throat of Manuela Silverio, a longtime employee of the Wigs by Andre salon at the West U-Bellaire-area center, and stabbed owners Roberta and Roland Ingrando.
Houston police had characterized the crime as a thrill-kill.
The broadcast includes previously unseen video of the crime scene and other aspects of the case, and interviews with Silverio’s daughters, the survivors and an eyewitness — a doctor who saw Goldberg flee and who entered the shop and rendered aid to the victims.
Goldberg, now 44, is currently serving a 45-year sentence for murder. He has never confessed, and in fact sought parole this year — his first potential chance for release. The state parole board rejected his request and put off another review for the maximum five years, concluding he is “a continuing threat to public safety.”
