West University City Council is set to interview finalists — likely a half-dozen whittled down from a field of 34 applicants, then eight — to become new city manager, to replace Chris Peifer, who has indicated he will retire at the end of January.
Strategic Government Resources has been conducting the search. Its senior Vice President is Mike Tanner, who served as West U’s city manager from 1990-96. Applications were closed on Oct. 22, with two screenings following, and a personality assessment required of the finalists before council interviews were to take place.
An offer is expected to be made to the council’s choice in the middle of this month.
The only finalist known by name is Dave Beach, who serves as West U’s assistant city manager and director of public works. The remainder, Essentials was told, are all either city managers or assistant city manager-level, seven in Texas cities, one in Georgia. Two are female, and one is black.
Posted salary for the position is $175,000-200,000, and council is expected to offer the low end of that range. Peifer currently makes $186,000.
