West U Council To Discuss Colonial Park/Rec. Center Proposals

May 29, 2008 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

The West University Place City Council will meet next week with the Parks Master Plan subcommittee to begin discussion on the Parks and Recreation Board’s proposal for Colonial Park and the West U. Recreation Center. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, at 6 p.m. in the conference room at City Hall, 3800 University Blvd.
The new proposals come almost two years after a 2006 bond election for $25.6 million failed. The new proposal comes in around $14 million, and includes a new pool and building at both Colonial Park and the West U. Rec. Center. The bond election will take place in November.
“Between now and the first council meeting in August, there will be discussions and the opportunity for public input,” said City Manager Michael Ross. “That is what the next couple of months are for – so council can receive public input on the Parks Board recommendations and determine what tweaking, if any, needs to occur to what is going to be put in front of voters in November.”
