West University Elementary School’s circus-themed carnival is the one of this year’s fund-raising activities under the PTO’s Reach for the Stars campaign for the 2008/2009 school year. The carnival and bazaar is scheduled for Oct. 18 along University Boulevard. The bazaar opens at 10 a.m. and the carnival is from 11a.m.-3 p.m.
The carnival will include a variety of inflatables, an Elephant Treat Walk, professional face painting and balloon-maker clowns and the perennial favorite confetti eggs. New offerings this year include a Rock Wall, “Mustang” pony rides and a photo booth to capture the memory of family and friends.
Included in the food offerings will be the West University Rotary’s BBQ sandwiches, snow cones and a sweet shop. The carnival will also include a bazaar featuring jewelry, accessories, art and other wares by area merchants and craftsmen.
West U. Elementary with the support of the PTO will sponsor a clothing drive for one of the elementary schools in Galveston. There will be a collection area set up at the Carnival to collect new and gently used clothing for elementary-age children and their teachers.
The Carnival proceeds will be applied to enrichment programs, staff professional development, child advocacy programs, instructional materials and other educational pursuits.
