West U gets ready to welcome annual marathon hordes Sunday a.m.

January 14, 2023 by Charlotte Aguilar

West University will turn over its streets to 25,000 runners in the Chevron Houston Marathon Sunday morning (Jan. 15), with parking restrictions, street closings, water stations, and plenty of cheering along the way.

The official restrictions along the course will run from about 6:15 a.m. through 11 a.m. The route runs west on University Boulevard from Kirby Drive, heading north on Weslayan to Bissonnet Street.

West U police are reminding residents along the route, viewable here, to have their vehicles removed from streets during that time.

Residents in the vicinity of City Hall at University and Auden can expect unusual sound activity from a live band and an announcement booth at a private mayor’s breakfast and official city welcoming festivities. Well-wishers by the thousands typically line the route throughout West U to provide support.

Temperatures Sunday morning are expected to be around 60 degrees with scattered clouds.
