One of the staples of West University Place city government is that once during the term of every city councilmember there is a discussion about outlawing gas-powered leaf blowers.
The meeting on April 22 was this group’s night for that discussion. The City Council charged the Building and Standards Commission with the task of doing analysis about possible restrictions or prohibition on the use of leaf blowers in West University Place. After three meetings, the Building and Standards Commission recommended that no changes be made.
The chair of that committee, Steve Brown, is a veteran of these discussions. He explained how the discussion always develops – people hate leaf blowers but they like their efficiency.
The good news – electric leaf blowers are getting cheaper and the batteries are lasting longer. So wait a while and the electric leaf blower will likely follow the cordless drill as the tool of choice.
