West U officials: ‘We are almost in the clear’

February 18, 2021 by Charlotte Aguilar

After one last blast of sub-freezing temperatures tonight (Thursday, Feb. 18), West University city officials will reopen most city facilities and services Friday, saying “we are almost in the clear.”

West U’s water system is operating normally, and “a majority” of residents have power, according to the update issued midday Thursday.

The city will close the drop-in warming center at the Recreation Center, 4210 Bellaire Blvd., at 7 p.m. tonight. Until then, residents may call ahead to 713-662-7420 to see if there is space.

Trash, recyclables and yard waste will be picked up on schedule Friday.

For availability of city facilities starting Friday, residents can check the website West U Parks & Recreation
