The West U Police Department is alerting residents about a phone call scam some have recently experienced.
The phone scam involves a call from Fairport, New York. This message in this scam should be disregarded:
“Return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive. My officer Julie Smith from Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my division is (585) 364-6540. I repeat it’s (585) 364-6540. Don’t disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Goodbye and take care.”

West U PD reminds residents to never give out personal or financial information over the phone. To contact the IRS, please visit www.irs.gov or call 1-800-829-1040
