West University is reopening green spaces in its parks this week — but no playgrounds or other amenities — with a caveat that their continued availability will depend on how residents respect protocols to prevent community spread of the coronavirus.

Opening today (Wednesday, May 13) are Liberty Hill Park and, in the afternoon, Jennie Elizabeth Hughes Park and Friends Park.

On Friday afternoon, Judson, Wier, Whitt Johnson and Huffington parks will reopen. Already open are the green spaces at Colonial Park and the Recreation Center.

City officials are reminding park goers to stay out of closed areas, maintain social distancing, and practice good hygiene and health protocols.

Under an order from Harris County, playgrounds, benches and other amenities must remain closed.
