Despite the governor’s lifting of a mandate to wear masks as protection against COVID-19, the city of West University announced Monday (March 8) it will continue to require anyone entering city facilities to be wearing a face covering.
The announcement said the decision is “in accordance with guidance from local health officials and the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) to ensure the upmost precautions remain in place to protect the health and safety of residents.”
Gov. Greg Abbott’s new executive order will take effect Wednesday and lifts an order requiring mask-wearing in public that has been in place since last summer. The order also allows businesses to reopen fully, with no occupancy restrictions.
West U offered caution as Texas loosens its safety measures. “Even though the Governor has lifted the restrictions imposed by the State doesn’t mean COVID-19 is behind us,” the statement read. “West U encourages residents to continue to follow all safety precautions to minimize the spread of the virus.”
