The West University Place Parks and Recreation Easter Spring Festival and Arbor Day is today. The event will be from 9 am – 11 am at the West University Recreation Center, located at 4210 Bellaire Blvd.
I will be distributing about 125 Tropical Milkweed plants that I have grown over the last five months for this occasion. This has been a great year for the Monarch butterfly population and I want to help all of you will start your own Monarch Butterfly garden.
But West U’s annual event will have much more. Children can enjoy bounce houses, a giant slide, an inflatable obstacle course, and mini-train rides, as well as activity booths offered by community partners. Bring your camera to take advantage of giant colored-egg selfie stations, snap a picture or two of the street performers, and of course, take photos with the Easter Bunny. Remember to bring your Easter basket – as prizes, including those for the winners of the Di-Eggo Counting Contest, will be given out.
And there is no better way to celebrate spring and especially Arbor Day than by planting a tree, and the West U Public Works Department urban forester will be giving trees away during the event. Trees will be given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
I hope to see you there.
