The Friends of Westbury High School Foundation will host their 11th “Evening with Westbury Stars” dinner and silent auction at 6:30 p.m. April 18 at the Braeburn Country Club, 8101 Bissonnet. The gala is the Foundation’s annual scholarship fundraising event.
“Proceeds raised at this year’s gala will fund scholarships next year for deserving Westbury High students,” stated Kathleen (Tinsley) Ownby, WHS ’67, Foundation president. “From 1994-2008, the Foundation has awarded 100 scholarships to Westbury High students and this year will award $24,000 in scholarships to sixteen (16) graduating Westbury seniors,” added Kathleen.
Honorees at this year’s gala are: James H. “Jim” Wilson, Class of 1970, Senior Vice President, Property Management, Crescent Real Estate Equities, LLC; Captain Lori A. Bender, Class of 1983, Houston Police Department Commander, Southeast Patrol Division; Marilyn Kretzer, Westbury Faculty (Senior Class Coordinator/Yearbook Sponsor), 1998-Present, and Don Bryan Sr., Westbury community leader, owner Bryan Calvin Insurance Agency, and father of three Westbury graduates..
Master of Ceremonies will be Don Armstrong, Class of 1970. Armstrong reports traffic from Channel 26 Sky Fox in Houston and does voiceover and on-camera talent freelance through Pastorini-Boxby Talent Agency, and recently moved back to the Westbury community,
