Bellaire Councilmember Will Hickman recently announced that he will be stepping down from his council position because he is relocating for work.
Hickman’s announcement came at the end of the city’s town meeting on Feb. 7.
Hickman is a patent attorney for Shell and will be relocating temporarily starting in March, but he plans on coming back to Bellaire once the assignment is complete.
“I will no longer be able to serve on council,” he said. “Based on the quality of the 14 candidates we had in the last election and what we’ve seen tonight from those of you on boards and commission and those of you not here I have no doubt the city will be much better off with my replacement.”
Mayor Cindy Siegel said Hickman will be missed.
He was re-elected to his position 1 seat on council in 2009. Prior to serving on council he served as a member of Board of Adjustments.
Hickman and his wife Jennifer have three children; Emma, Sarah and William.
The city will hold a special election on May 14 to fill Hickman’s position. Those interested in running for the position can file their candidacy starting March 14.
