Runoffs Likely For Two Bellaire City Council Positions

November 2, 2009 by Essentials Staff Leave a Comment

On the eve of the election that is allowing voters to make significant changes to the Bellaire City Council, some city officials are already expecting a runoff for two races.

The Place 3 and Place 5 council seats each have four candidates vying for the position.

Fourteen candidates running for Bellaire City Council positions prepare to answer questions on Thursday from a moderator at the Bellaire Area Candidates' Forum.
Fourteen candidates running for Bellaire City Council positions prepare to answer questions on Oct. 15 at the Bellaire Area Candidates' Forum.

“I don’t know if any one person will get 50 percent of the votes,” said Bellaire City Clerk Tracy Dutton.

Running for Place 3 are Corbett Parker, Roseann Rogers, Marie Anstead and Richard Franke. Running for Place 5 are Tina Blum-Cohen, Andrew Friedberg, James Jameson and Johnnie Frazier.

Whatever happens, it is clear that next year’s city council will look much different than this year’s. There will be at least three new council members.

If the Place 3 and Place 5 races are indeed headed for runoffs, the date of that election would be Dec. 12, Dutton said.
