The shutdown begins: West U closing Monday, HISD sets classes from home

February 12, 2021 by Charlotte Aguilar

The city of West University will be closing city offices and facilities and suspending solid waste collection Monday (Feb. 15) in anticipation of dangerous winter weather — and Houston ISD students, including West University ES pupils, will be learning from home Monday and Tuesday.

METRO also announced it is suspending all service Monday and Tuesday.

Those are only the first of expected closings, changes and cancellations in reaction to an arctic ice storm that is forecast to bring the coldest temperatures the Houston area has seen in 70 years, including dangerous ice.
